This tractor has been completely restored by prior owners. Each part should be placed and linked to other parts in specific manner. That should raise the bendix enough to clear the ring gear.

Wayne, the trick in getting the starter out is to get everything out of the way, remove the solenoid and pull the motor towards you a tad then tip the motor back downward. The fenders and exterior surfaces are in excellent condition with no damage. There is a detent ball under the spring for the shifting rod.
